About The Taj

Introducing The Taj, a Bangladeshi restaurant that quietly holds its own charm right on High Street in the heart of Hartley Wintney. When I talk about The Taj, I’m talking about a place that feels instantly welcoming, the kind of spot you recommend to friends when they ask where they can enjoy comforting food without the fuss. Located at 1A High St, Hartley Wintney, Hook RG27 8PE, United Kingdom, it’s easy to find and even easier to settle into, whether you’re popping in after a long day or planning something a bit more relaxed. The vibe leans warm and casual, making it perfect for a laid-back dine-in experience, yet it also works brilliantly if you prefer delivery or takeaway on nights when staying in just makes more sense. What really stands out is how naturally everything flows here, from the friendly service to the way the menu balances familiar favorites with dishes that feel thoughtfully prepared. The Taj isn’t trying to be flashy; instead, it focuses on creating a space where people feel comfortable ordering what they love, trying something new, and enjoying the moment. Adding to the appeal is a solid selection of offerings that complement the food beautifully, including alcohol, beer, wine, and spirits, which makes it just as suitable for a relaxed evening meal as it is for a casual get-together. If you’re someone who enjoys a slower pace, there’s coffee available too, ideal for stretching out your visit and chatting a little longer. Late-night food options make The Taj especially appealing for those evenings when hunger strikes later than expected and you want something satisfying without compromise. Overall, The Taj comes across as a dependable, easygoing Bangladeshi restaurant that blends location, atmosphere, and choice in a way that feels natural rather than forced, making it a spot people return to not out of habit, but because it genuinely fits into their everyday routine.

Such amazingly good consistency! I have been going to and getting take out from the Taj (formerly Viceroy) for years. They always impress every time. Like a previous review I tried Monsoon and the Taj food is tastier, warmer and more succulent. The staff are really friendly and always make you feel welcome. Hart-ley recommend it!

Quirky yet contemporary interior; large staircase in the middle leads to upstairs washrooms. Food was good, service good. Just not special. Parking spaces directly in front of resturant.

My brother just moved to the area so, first night we just ordered the exact same from both Taj and from Monsoon down the road. Chicken Tikka Masala, Rice, Onion Baji and Keema Naan. The Taj wins hands down and it wasn't even close. This seems to be a much more authentic Indian Curry than down the road which was the bright red Masala you see lots of places. Monsoon is decent enough but The Taj is different league for us. Highly recommend. The Taj is the one on the left in the photo. Proper looking, authentic Masala.

Great food and great vibe to this place. From an intimate meal for 2 to a large group of friends, these guys never fail. Thanks for providing a 5 star indian restaurant to Hartley Wintney!! (the family of 4, with Mike in the corner)

First time trying this restaurant. Surprisingly tasty food and easily the better of the two Indians in the town imo. Although I had Takeaway and ordered online (so I only met some staff upon collection) I found the two waiters I met very friendly. Will definitely use them again.

This was my first time here and I was very pleased with the service and the tastiness of the food. Very enjoyable. They were knowledgeable and helpful with gluten-free advice.
